Me and the Peacocks

I took my Bridals in April. It was a day of being pampered and having some fun without thinking about grad school and my upcoming COMPS (Comprehensive Exams).

I chose to take my pictures at the Rip Van Wrinkle Gardens. So apparently they have a few many peacocks that just roam around the grounds doing whatever they want. Have any of y'all ever heard the noise that peacocks make?? It sounds like someone is murdering a cat!

There's the Peacock

The pictures came out even better than I could have imagined! It was so hard to pick just one for my canvas.

Time to Get Hitched

Our wedding day went by so fast, in my opinion. I just had to remember that if something wasn't perfect, that the ONLY person that would know was me. {That became my mantra the whole week} Luckily I'm such a perfectionist organized person that everything was all laid out and everything got to where it needed to be on time.

Here are a few Details:

What do you do with all those wedding cards?

I don't know about y'all but we got a bunch of wedding cards from family and friends. I didn't want to simply throw them away, but what do you do with a bunch of wedding cards? I found the answer to my prayers on pinterest when I came across Something Turquoise's card mini-album.

These are the supplies Something Turquoise recommends you have: paper trimmer, hole punch (preferably the Crop-a-dile), Making Memories Tag Maker and tags, ruler, scissors, E600 glue, pencil, pen, scrap cardboard, large ribbon, cute wedding stamp, stamp pad, a couple brads, Glue Dots and large album ring.

Well I didn't have a Crop-a-dile hole punch, but I did have a three hole punch. I also didn't have E600 glue or a large album ring. The three hole punch worked just fine, but it took forever an hour for me to punch every card one at a time.
Did I mention that I didn't use a ruler either?? So I didn't exactly cut it straight. No one, except for y'all, will ever know that I didn't cut the cardboard straight. It turned out super cute, in my opinion!! What do you think?

The only thing I'm going to change, is that I really really do need the large album ring to hold all the cards together. I'm currently using a small little ring I found in the bottom of the craft box. It's barely holding the cards and the cardboard together.

A Sunday Funday

One phrase sums up us hosting a party for the Saints game, a lot of people in a small space. It actually turned out way better than I could have imagined. Mike decided to cook a red jambalaya and for us to make our own jalapeno poppers wrapped in bacon.

If you aren't from Louisiana then you don't know that there is too types of jambalaya, a red and a brown. People from New Orleans, like my husband, cook a red jambalaya which contains more of a tomato base to it. People like me, who grew up in Acadiana (Cajun Country), cook a jambalaya that does NOT contain tomatoes in it. Tomatoes or no tomatoes, that is the question! Besides the tomatoes, both jambalayas are pretty much the same.
It was Mike's first time cooking a jambalaya, he was super worried that he had accidentally burnt it. It turned out yummy!Even though the Saints lost against the Panthers, Sunday Funday was a complete success!! I might even agree to hosting another function at our apartment again.

Cleaning / Organizing

So as you all know, I told you that Mike invited people over to watch the Saints game this Sunday. The both of us spent all of Saturday cleaning and getting everything ready for Sunday morning. I'm going to show you my project for storing my necklaces in our small apartment. I got the inspiration from a Better Homes and Garden image.

I thought, I can make something similar to this easy peasy. I used an old cork board for the wedding guest thumb print tree and my mom had extra canvas fabric from when she made a slipcover for the sofa.
I painted the black border frame of the bulletin board brown with some extra dark brow paint that was leftover from some project. I cut the canvas so that it would fit over the cork board part, but either I didn't cut it right or the board grew after I took the measurements.

not exactly perfect
I'm personally going with the board grew after I marked the canvas and cut it to fit the board. I thoroughly recommend using some adhesive spray to spray over the cork then place your perfectly cut piece of canvas or what either kind of fabric you choose. The adhesive spray helps the fabric to stay without having to shove your pins through something hard, like hot glue. Since my edges weren't close perfect in some areas, I decided to use this extra ribbon border stuff to cover up my imperfections.

Here it what it looks like when it was all finished. (Sorry for the fuzzy pic)

I really like it, plus there it no possibility of my necklaces getting broken by our chest of drawers again. Our chest of drawers ate part of one of necklaces a few days ago, but no more!

Finished the LAST of Wedding Stuff

I have finally finished my part of the thank you cards!!! It only took me three months, give or take a week or more. I'm so glad to have them finished. All I have to do now is mail them out tomorrow. Now I wonder how long it's going to take Mike to finish writing the ones to his friends?
So not only did I finish writing thank you cards, but I also finished picking the photos for our wedding album. Picking 40 pages of pictures out of 500+ photos is a lot harder than you think. I had to figure out how many I wanted on each page and if I wanted them in color or black/white, it almost drove me crazy trying to organize the album. I can't wait to see how our wedding album turns out with all the pictures I spent hours organizing. I'll post an update when it arrives.
